Our Admissions Process

When we think of addiction, our minds normally jump to drugs or alcohol. However, behavioral addictions, such as gambling or sex addictions, are receiving increasing recognition from the scientific community as a class of mental disorders. In 2013, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) formally recognised gambling addiction as a form of behavioral addiction.

At Empowered Recovery, we offer treatment for drug, alcohol, and behavioral addictions.

The sooner you get help, the sooner you can begin the journey to recovery and fulfill a sober life. Our admissions process involves a few simple steps.

1. Making the First Phone Call

Your recovery journey begins when you pick up the phone. One of our expert team members will take your call, answer any questions you may have, and talk through our treatment options with you. We will ask for a summary of why you or your loved one wants to attend treatment and pass this on to our admissions team with your consent.
Admissions Process
We understand that picking up the phone can be difficult. With this in mind, we make sure we are there for you at all times. Our lines are open twenty-four hours a day, whenever you need them. It should also be noted that all calls are entirely confidential.

2. In-Depth Admissions Assessment

Every client is different and has unique needs. For this very reason, it’s vital that we understand your condition. In doing so, we can provide you with the treatment that works best for you. Our admissions process begins with mental, physical, and addiction assessments to ensure we can do this.

Our experienced staff delivers all our assessments with sensitivity and expertise. We use professional techniques to provide the most accurate assessment in the least intrusive way possible.

“ A truly wonderful place. I’d recommend it to anyone who needs it. ” - Anne, Former Client

Mental Assessment

During your mental assessment, we will ask you several questions to gain insight into the behavioral, sociological, and psychological aspects of your addiction. We aim to understand the causes of your addiction by exploring your living environment, your family history, your childhood experiences, and many other factors.

We also use diagnostic techniques from DSM-5 to identify any co-occurring disorders that may be driving your addiction, which we will treat as part of our dual diagnosis program.

Physical Assessment

In your physical health assessment, our trained medics conduct a professional examination to identify any physical conditions that may have resulted from your addiction. These can be symptoms of neglect, like malnutrition, or prolonged abuse, like liver disease. We also test for HIV and Hepatitis, which can be spread through the sharing of needles.

A physical health assessment is crucial as this guarantees that we can provide you with the care you need during treatment. Conducting a physical assessment also enables us to connect you with appropriate services when you leave.
Admissions Process
Your physical health is intrinsically connected to mental health. Being adequately nourished and exercising promotes balanced hormones and improves moods which can support the recovery process.

Addiction Assessment

During your addiction assessment, we ask you questions about your substance abuse. We may ask:
  • What is the main drug you use?
  • How long have you used drugs?
  • What do you want to get out of treatment?
  • Is this the first time you’ve attended treatment?
This information is vital for determining your level of care and the duration of your stay. It helps us ensure you receive the support you need to stay safe and achieve long-term recovery
“ I arrived at ER completely broken, I’d tried so many times to stop taking fentanyl. All of the staff really supported me and helped me realize that there was hope. ” - Bill, Former Client

3. Designing Your Individualized Treatment Plan

Once we have completed our assessments, we design your individualized treatment plan. We work with you to determine your treatment options, schedule, and level of care. We apply our expert scientific knowledge surrounding addiction and recovery treatment to your unique circumstances to devise the most effective treatment program for you.
Admissions Process
The best recovery plans combine a variety of different approaches to provide holistic healing for the entire person. Our treatment options include:

4. Continual Assessment and Flexibility

We even assign you a personal therapist who stays by your side to support this process throughout your time with us.

What Should I Bring to the Center?

If you are attending an outpatient program, you don’t need to bring anything with you. Wear something you feel comfortable in so you can relax and focus during treatment.

If you participate in our partial hospitalization program, you may like to bring:
  • A toothbrush and other toiletries
  • A towel
  • Several changes of clothes
  • Phone charger
  • Spending money
“ Everyone at ER helped me so much! I’m coming up to six months clean now which I never thought I’d manage. I can’t say thank you enough times! ” - Jerry, Former Client

What Behavior Is Unacceptable in Our Center?

At Empowered Recovery, we are committed to maintaining a calm and safe atmosphere so that clients can fully engage in their recovery program. We ask that clients help to support this environment and act peacefully with one another.
